Every kid should have a crow. We all should know crows. Where I live, in rural Iowa, the crows have been shot at by I guess farmers and hunters so much that they are way cautious. In town, the crows walk around on people's porches. Only reason I would be able to live in town.

If every kid had a relationship with a crow it would change the world.

Brought back my own memories of my own pet crow (Sammi) and my dog. Sammi was caged, and sometimes a red-tail or a cat would come too close and Sammi would call in fright or warning- and my dog, a beagle-lab mix, would tear out of the house to protect his friend - without any impetus from a human. I actually learned to identify a crow's 'hey, there's a raptor/owl here' call from realizing what the dog was responding to.

There is so much we learn from having relationships with animals.

Inky had personality plus, and, it sounds to me that he was a wonderful companion. I loved this story. I also loved how you said Inky would know when you got home from school and would fly over and land on your shoulder. That is high affection, indeed. And a sign of love.

Birds have some kind of heightened senses. Arya the Cockatiel starts squawking very loud and flying to the door before my wife and our son arrive from school. He does this when they are half a block away, before they pull into the driveway. How does he know? It is one of the many mysteries of the avian brain.

Yes indeed Perry and like most relationships, it’s the mystery that keeps us so interested.

Love this story, so beautiful, your relationship and caring for the animals, It really touched me to hear that Inky had to be caged, not knowing that you were actually protecting him.. What parents sometimes do to get their rambunctious children through until they learn the perils of this world, and make informed decisions... and your dad. I was feeling sad as you first described your relationship, so it was a pleasant surprise to hear how you worked it out, realizing that he was helping you and taking interest... I guess in his own way.

This song is about a boy who goes into the forest and finds his family with the wolves... I think you will like it.. I was thinking of it as I was reading this story.
